Bill Gates made his fortune with Microsoft over the past 25 years. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has given away $100,000,000,000.00 (one hundred billion dollars) to fight childhood diseases like polio, malaria, measles, and childhood poverty. Much controversy and skepticism has surrounded his giving because of the growing reluctance to vaccines, especially during the Covid 19 global pandemic. Despite the rumors and bad press Gates has continued his quest to help children around the word by funding the research and development of children’s vaccines,
Bill Gates announced today that he would give away the rest of his fortune, around $200,000,000,000.00 (two hundred billion dollars) over the next twenty years, by 2045 when the Foundation will officially close. He has criticized other billionaires like Elon Musk who use their wealth for their own personal profit instead of giving back to humanity and helping the less fortunate. Many have fallen victim to poverty because of the rules and laws imposed by the rich. Gates said that having the richest man in the world (Elon Musk) involved with killing millions of the poorest children in the world (by cutting their humanitarian aid) “is a bad look”. Gates intends to show the world that the rich can do better, and make the world a better place for all. Time will tell if other wealthy billionaires follow his lead.
Gates said “People will say a lot of things about me when I die, but I am determined that ‘he died rich’ will not be one of them. There are too many urgent problems to solve for me to hold onto resources that could be used to help people.”
