President Biden delivered his Presidential Address from the Oval Office to the American nation today officially announcing that he will not be running for President, that he is passing the torch to his Vice President Kamala Harris, that his service to the country is bigger than his political ambitions, and that he will continue to work during the rest of his Presidency on important issues that threaten our democracy including the now politicized and compromised Supreme Court. President Biden’s speech is a huge contract to his opponent Donald Trump. While President Biden expressed humility and doing what was best for Democracy, unfortunately Donald Trump and the Republican Party leaders continues to spew division, hatred, and rhetoric supporting Autocracy. The recent spewing of inappropriate racial and gender slurs against VP Harris since President Bidens first announced that he was not running and endorsing her just a few days ago even had Republicans asking for them to stop with the racist inuendoes.
Despite the stark contrasts between the two candidates, Americans are still deeply divided. President Biden stated that the future of our nation is at stake in a speech that behooves all Americas to watch. He poses questions that hopefully all Americans will honestly ask themselves. “Do we still believe in honesty, decency, respect, freedom, justice and democracy? In this moment we can see those who we disagree with not as enemies, but as fellow Americans. Can we do that, and does character in public office still matter?” President Biden has faith in the positive answer to these questions because he has faith in the American people. We will soon see if he is right come this November.
The speech was broadcast on several networks. The coverage of the speech on ABC can be viewed here from YouTube: WATCH PRESIDENTS BIDEN ADDRESS TO THE NATION JULY 24, 2024
